Psychotherapy and Counselling – what is the difference?

This is a hotly debated topic with a variety of views available. Generally Counselling helps people improve their sense of wellbeing, alleviate their distress, resolve their crises, increase their ability to solve problems, see other options and make decisions for themselves. Psychotherapy may be more helpful for psychological problems that have built up over years.

My role is to try and help you make sense of what is happening and not just label your experience as symptoms. I believe the key to success is through the relationship of therapist and client and I work towards a carefully boundaried relationship where you can feel safe, tell your story and really be listened to. I offer empathy and space where you can feel valued and talk in comfortable surroundings.

Talking can help.

Sometimes friends and family are not available to listen or are too close to the problem.
